Pakistan has been invited to take part in Iran-US talks focused on easing tensions between Tehran and Washington, the Foreign Office said on Tuesday.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andarabi, while speaking to Geo News, confirmed Pakistan’s invitation to the negotiations, which are scheduled to take place in Istanbul later this week

US participation and regional players

Sources say US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, are expected to participate. Initially, ministers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and the UAE were to attend, but Tehran now prefers a purely bilateral approach.

Regional players have emphasized the urgent need for diplomacy to prevent escalation into armed conflict, especially as tensions in the Gulf continue to rise.


The United States military says it shot down an Iranian drone that approached a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea, amid continued efforts by regional powers to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Oman, UAE also invited for talks.

Pakistan has been invited to take part in Iran-US talks focused on easing tensions between Tehran and Washington, the Foreign Office said on Tuesday.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andarabi, while speaking to Geo News, confirmed Pakistan’s invitation to the negotiations, which are scheduled to take place in Istanbul later this week.

US considered Iran strike; EU imposed new sanctions on Iran for human rights violations and Russian alignment. Tehran vowed a strong response. PM Shehbaz spoke with Iran’s President; coordination on regional security emphasized.
