Shah Rukh Khan’s IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders has released Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026 after the BCCI intervened. Mustafizur, bought for ₹9.2 crore in the December 2025 auction, became the centre of political and social controversy amid ongoing tensions between India and Bangladesh and reports of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that KKR was formally instructed to release him, adding that the board will allow a replacement if requested. The decision followed growing criticism from political leaders and social groups targeting Shah Rukh Khan and questioning the inclusion of a Bangladeshi player.
