In an extraordinary breach of national security, a journalist from The Atlantic magazine was mistakenly included in a private social media conversation with senior US officials about upcoming attacks on the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Vice President JD Vance, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz were among more than a dozen others in a group chat on Signal.
In screenshots released by editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, Mr Vance expressed his concern for the military action suggesting that Europe did not deserve America’s help.
But later changed his mind in a message to Mr Hegseth: “If you think we should do it let's go. I just hate bailing Europe out again."
CIA Director John Ratcliffe said on Tuesday that no classified information was included in the texts.
