One of my favorite foods growing up in Hawaii was tamago rice. It's a simple dish consisting of rice, raw egg, and shoyu. My grandma would make it for us all the time, despite my mom not liking it. But like many Hawaii grandma's, she did what she did because of the grandkids. I've eaten tamago rice throughout my adult life, but had to stop eating it in Hawaii because I once got really sick. Since then, I haven't eaten it in Hawaii, but I do eat it in Japan. On this particular trip, I had it at least three times. Tamago rice in Japan brings back so many memories of my grandma in Hawaii and all of the wonderful times growing up in Hawaii.
