Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2023 Kia Seltos, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver. Before we do that though, let's just take a minute, check this out, and make sure it's gonna work for you. So by putting a trailer hitch on the back of your Kia, it's really gonna help open up your opportunities on what you're gonna be able to do, whether you're trying to pull a smaller trailer around, or use an accessory like a bike rack or a cargo carrier. This one's definitely gonna get the job done. There is another hitch available for the Seltos, and that one is made by Curt, and if it we're me and I had to pick between the two, this would be the one that I personally would go with, really for one big reason, and that's because this has a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening.

As to where the Curt one has a smaller inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter. And this two inch one is a lot more common. There's a lot more accessories available, and so you're gonna have a bigger variety of things to pick from that you can use with this hitch on your Seltos. In terms of the appearance, I think it looks really good. For the most part, the hitch is completely hidden.

Really, you're just gonna be able to see the receiver tube opening there, so don't really get much better than that, at least in my opinion. And the hitch is going to use that standard 3/8 pin and clip. Keep in mind though, one doesn't come included with the hitch. If you need one, not a huge deal. Grab it here at etrailer.

Or a lot of times too, if you end up buying a new accessory, they'll come with one, so just something to look out for there. The safety chain openings are gonna be a loop style, and they're easy to get to and large enough to allow us use just about any size hook that your trailer might have on it. When it comes to the hitch's weight capacities, this is gonna have a 300 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating, which is the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So that's good for those one to three, maybe even four bike racks, just kind of depending on how much everything weighs, give you an example there. And as far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 2000 pounds.

So that's the amount of weight pulling on the hitch. So weight of your trailer, plus anything you might have in or on it. Now with that said, I do always like to recommend, it's never a bad idea just to grab your Kia's owner's manual. That way you can check in there and make sure that your SUV can handle that much weight safely. We'll grab a couple of measurements now and these will help you figure out what type of accessories will work best. If you go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, that's gonna be about 12 inches. So for those of you plan on pulling a trailer, you're gonna need a ball mount that has a rise in the shank. Or that four inch range would work good for most people. And if you're gonna be buying a new accessory, if you can find one that has a rise in the shank, that'd be ideal, buy a little more ground clearance. But one with a straight shank would be fine too. You know, just be aware that it's a little bit closer to the ground. If you go from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about five and a half inches, and you can use that to help figure out exactly if any of those folding style accessories you might have can be stored in that upright position without hitting the back of your Seltos. Other than that, at the end of the day, a hitch you really can't go wrong with, you know, it's gonna be the most versatile and look pretty good as well. When it comes to the installation, it's really not too bad. You don't have to do anything crazy, but it is a little tight to get the hardware up into the frame and things like that. But thankfully it's something you only have to do one time, and shouldn't really run into too many issues. But if you're gonna install this yourself, feel free to hang around, we'll go ahead, pull into the garage and get going on it now. To begin our installation, we're gonna be here at the back of our Kia, and starting over on the passenger side, we're gonna have this small panel that we need to remove.
