And make sure you pray shortly after or do it with them depending on how the Spirit is leading you!
Types of Prayers and People...
Mission 1: Restoration & Healing
Use these when someone is broken, sick, or struggling.
James 5:16 – "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
Field Note: Note the connection between relational vulnerability (confessing) and healing. You can't pray effectively for someone you are hiding from.
Job 42:10 – "After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before."
Field Note: Praying for others is often the key to your own breakthrough. Job was restored after he interceded for the friends who hurt him.
1 John 5:16 – "If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life."
Mission 2: Spiritual Growth & Wisdom
Use these to pray for depth and maturity in believers.
Colossians 1:9 – "For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives..."
Ephesians 3:16-17 – "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith."
Philippians 1:9 – "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight."
Mission 3: Protection & Strength
Use these when someone is in a battle.
Luke 22:31-32 – "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail."
Field Note: Jesus didn't pray for the removal of the attack, but for the survival of the faith during the attack.
Ephesians 6:18 – "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."
Mission 4: The "Impossible" Relationships (Enemies)
Use these when you don't want to pray for them.
Matthew 5:44 – "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."
Luke 6:28 – "Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."
Field Note: Prayer is the primary tactic to stop bitterness from taking root in your heart. You cannot hate someone you are consistently praying for.
Mission 5: Leadership & Authority
Use these for bosses, pastors, and government.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 – "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."
