“Great God, Our Creator” based on ST. DENIO/Welsh folk melody (aka "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise")
setting by Michael Burkhardt (b. 1957)
“Ciacona in F” Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706)
You all know "Pachelbel's Canon in D" in which the composer presents an ostinato (repeating) bass over which he writes numerous variations. This work by Pachelbel comprises a theme and 22 variations, the last of which is an almost exact repeat of the theme. The ostinato bass pattern is not kept intact in all variations, and disappears in some, anticipating similar passages in Johann Sebastian Bach's famous Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 582. BTW...Bach was HIGHLY influenced by the senior Pachelbel.
“Lord, Take My Hand & Lead Me” Friedrich Silcher (1789-1860)
setting by Michael Burkhardt (b. 1957)
