The Session was chaired by ShriShambhuKumaran, Jt Secy, Plg & International Cooperation, MoD, who observed that India is a limited player in the area of defence exports. He said technology would be driving the defence industry in the years ahead, and that we must find ways to drive exports further.
Other panellists were Ashok Atluri, CMD, Zen Technologies, Sartaj Singh, Director, Solar Group, and Commodore Rakesh Anand, CMD, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders.
Issues regarding the Indian government’s push for ownership of Intellectual Property Rights by Indian companies, urging the MoD to procure from Indian companies, and challenges for export including embargos on sale to certain countries, end-user certification, and low volumes, while being capital intensive and having to cope with fast obsolescence, were discussed.
