What matters in hemorrhage assessment?
You're looking at three distinct types in the field:
Arterial bleeding - bright red, pulsing with the heartbeat. This is your "drop everything and act" scenario. High pressure means it's not stopping on its own.
Venous bleeding - darker blood, steady flow. Less dramatic than arterial, but don't get comfortable - these can still empty your patient's tank fast.
Capillary bleeding - slow oozer, dark red. Usually self-limiting, but still needs your attention.
Quick physiology refresher: tissue damage triggers vasoconstriction and starts the clotting cascade. But here's the kicker - if your patient's on blood thinners, all bets are off.
