There are 2 different levels of nursing you can study in Aus.

The Diploma of Nursing and a Bachelor of Nursing

A Diploma of Nursing is the education required to work as an Enrolled Nurse. A Bachelor of Nursing is the education required if you want to be skilled as a Registered Nurse.

Diploma of Nursing:
Usually 1.5 - 2 years in length
Can be done at TAFE or private providers
Will generally cost about $8000 per semester.
Will usually include work based components as part of the course


Bachelor of Nursing:
Usually 3 years in length. However some universities have accelerated programs that allow those who have previously done a bachelor degree to finish the course in only 2 years.
Can be done at a university
Will generally cost about $13,000+ per semester.
Will usually include a lot of work based components as part of the course

It is very common for someone who has studied to become an enrolled nurse to then go on to become a registered nurse. You will often be given credit towards the bachelor program which will shorted the duration and the cost. If you go this pathway, you would also be able to work as an enrolled nurse whilst finishing your bachelor program.

Requirements for Entry:
Must have completed high school in home country
High level of English required. Obviously if you are working with patients you need a high level of English. You will usually need IELT 7’s, with no score lower than 6.

Outcomes at the end of the course:

Most education in these programs will be accredited. Which means that at the end of the studies once you receive your qualification you will meet the requirements to become registered in Aus as an enrolled or registered nurse.
Please note if you do the bachelor of nursing program, you should also qualify for the graduate work visa upon completion of your course.
Registered Nurse is also on the MLTSSL, this means the government has identified this profession as in demand in demand in Aus. Which means that you may also become eligible to apply for the different general skilled migration visas.
