Описание: What is TORCH test? Is it a cause for recurrent pregnancy loss? Let’s understand that TORCH infection is a collective test for few viral infections where T : stands for toxoplasmosis

C: cytomegala
H: herpes simplex virus 1& 2

First of all we should understand that TORCH infection is not the cause of recurrent pregnancy loss . The interpretation of the test is to detect antibodies against this infection. If IGg antibodies are positive it indicates past infection and hence determining immunity which is good for the patient as if IGg antibodies are present , patient has fighter cells in the body to fight against those viruses .
If IGm antibodies are present it indicates current infection but Torch infections per se are not the cause of first trimester pregnancy loss. If IG m antibodies come positive in second trimester of pregnancy then amniocentesis is advised to see the infection in the fetus . If amniocentesis is positive for antibodies , one may think of termination of pregnancy. And if amniocentesis is negative for antibodies, there is no harm to the baby and pregnancy may be continued.

It should be very very clear that TORCH infection is not at all is the cause of abortion and one must not waste money to get the Torch test done.

TORCH panel is tool to determine immunity and not the infection .
