Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye told the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday that he would not accept the Sahel region becoming "the scene of rivalries between foreign powers."
"It is imperative that the Security Council fully fulfills its role as guarantor of international stability," he added.
Faye also said international peace and security would only come through "urgent reform of global institutions, including the Security Council, the IMF, and the World Bank so that they are more inclusive and reflect the current geopolitical and economic reality."
