You can play long patterns with the Volca Bass by setting a very low tempo. In this demo I set the tempo to 16bpm, so that it plays in time with a 128bpm track. I haven't used any sync cables. I just pressed play at the right time. It's not that hard, especially if you're playing chords with a long Attack, so the timing isn't crucial.
How to set a very low tempo:
By default, the speed of the Volca Bass patterns is controlled by the Trmpo knob, specified in beats per minute (bpm) on the LED panel. The default tempo range is from 56bpm to 240bpm, adjusted in steps of 0.5bpm.
This range can be extended to cover 10bpm to 600bpm. To do this, turn the Volca Bass on while holding the Func button. The LED panel will read "Glob". Press key number 5 to switch between the default narrow tempo range and the full range. When the narrow range is selected, the LED panel will read "tP.nr" (Tempo Narrow) and the LED beneath key 5 will not be illuminated. When the full rtempo range is selected, the LED panel will read "tP.FL" (Tempo Full) and the LED beneath key 5 will be illuminated. Press Record to confirm the selection or Play to cancel. The Tempo knob blinks every four steps to give a visual representation of the tempo.
Here are four examples of me using the technique in a live, DAWless set-up playing full "songs".
