This guy works at a hardware store, totally beat and low on cash, so he grabs this beat up old Corolla for cheap. Turns out, the car comes with its last owner stuck to it, like some wild gremlin who fixes arcade machines or something. She is not leaving the passenger seat, not emotionally anyway, and maybe not even really. It starts small, spare keys showing up, sticky notes all over, and then lattes just appearing out of nowhere. I think that is the part that gets messy quick.
Things pile up from there. DMV turns into this nightmare, endless lines and paperwork that does not end. At work, it is embarrassing, people staring or asking questions he cannot answer. Impound fees, paid with a bunch of quarters he scraped together. And the breakdown, right in the pouring rain, everything falling apart at once. It feels like the car is pulling him into her chaos.
Between all that retail grind, family nagging him about his life, he ends up fixing the radiator watching YouTube videos, fueled by pure spite. The car is not just a ride anymore. It turns into this weird shared space, orbiting around both of them. Engine keeps going somehow, no check light blinking on. Bennett figures it out eventually, she did not leave at all. Just went from crashing there to riding shotgun for good. That upgrade kind of fits, I guess.
