Now, when it comes to privacy-related elements, I have to note that CyberGhost’s jurisdiction lies in Romania, while Surfshark is in the Netherlands. The latter is part of an intelligence-sharing alliance, meaning the government can request data from Surfshark for its own means. Not that it’s a big deal, for reason mentioned later.However, CyberGhost is not without a sin either - right now it belongs to the UK-based Kape Technologies. Starting with CyberGhost VPN review: it has a bunch of specialized servers for streaming, torrenting, and gaming. Where Surfshark offers Camouflage Mode that hides the fact you are using a VPN, CyberGhost has No-Spy servers. These are a bunch of Romania-based servers with better hardware, so faster and more secure! Finally, Smart Rules help me configure when CyberGhost should launch and if I want specific apps to open alongside my VPN connection - this is the only unique feature CyberGhost has.

Surfshark might use the same tunneling protocol as CyberGhost, but the latter dominates in terms of server count in almost threefold! However, in my speed test, CyberGhost’s speed proved to be less stable than Surfshark’s and even went lower on average.

But raw speed is not conclusive - I needed to use it somewhere. Streaming is perfect for situations like this, and both CyberGhost and Surfshark had no problems accessing various streaming platforms. My stream quality remained pretty high, though on distant streaming sources like Indian Disney+ Hotstar or Japanese Netflix, Surfshark performed better. For torrenting, both providers displayed similar results, so there’s not much difference between them to go in-depth. Still, due to a faster connection and better streaming performance, Surfshark wins this round.
