Fabulous open source projects like ESPurna, ESPhome and Home Assistant make home automation much easier. Instead of spending many hours on developing communication protocols and other low-level stuff, you can concentrate on defining automation rules for your connected devices. What makes these projects even better is their support for many commercially available products. Seamlessly integrate your own ESP-based devices with e.g. Ikea Trådfri, Philips Hue and Zigbee-based products.
In this video we show how to install Home Assistant (a.k.a. hass.io) on a Raspberry Pi and how to transform a custom ESP8266 device into an #ESPHome device that connects to Home Assistant. We then show how to define some automation rules to control the behaviour of our ESP device. P.S. Before you post a comment, we are aware of the Generic Thermostat built into Home Assistant or the Bang Bang Controller of ESPHome.
