DeyrulZafaran Monastery is one of the most important centers of the Assyrian Church.
The monastery was founded in the 5th century AD . The Monastery arose on a Sun God Temple
(dating to about the 5-6th century B.C.E). From 1160 until 1932 it was the official seat
of the Syriac Orthodox Church Patriarch.
