How to export gerber files from easyeda
Gerber files are the industry standard for PCB manufacturing, containing all the necessary information for fabricating your printed circuit board. EasyEDA makes exporting these files straightforward through its built-in fabrication output feature.
Accessing the Export Function
To begin exporting Gerber files from EasyEDA, first ensure your PCB design is complete and saved. Navigate to the top menu bar and click on "Fabrication" then select "PCB Fabrication File (Gerber)." Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+G. This opens the Gerber generation dialog box where you'll configure your export settings.
Configuring Export Settings
The Gerber export dialog presents several important options. First, verify that all necessary layers are selected for export. Standard PCB designs typically require the top copper, bottom copper, top solder mask, bottom solder mask, top silkscreen, bottom silkscreen, and drill files. Multi-layer boards will include additional inner copper layers.
Check the "Excellon Drill" option to include drill files, which are essential for hole placement during manufacturing. The "Pick and Place" option generates component placement files useful for automated assembly processes. Select "BOM" if you need a bill of materials exported alongside your Gerber files.
Layer Configuration
EasyEDA automatically maps your design layers to standard Gerber layer names. The copper layers use .GTL (top) and .GBL (bottom) extensions, while solder mask layers use .GTS (top) and .GBS (bottom). Silkscreen layers are exported as .GTO (top) and .GBO (bottom). Drill files typically use .TXT or .DRL extensions.
Review the layer mapping to ensure it matches your manufacturer's requirements. Some fabricators prefer specific naming conventions, so verify these details with your chosen PCB manufacturer beforehand.
File Format Options
EasyEDA supports multiple Gerber format options. RS-274X is the most widely accepted format and should be your default choice unless your manufacturer specifically requests otherwise. The coordinate format is typically set to 2.4 (2 integer digits, 4 decimal places), which provides sufficient precision for most PCB applications.
Generating and Downloading Files
Once you've configured all settings, click "Generate Gerber" to create your files. EasyEDA processes your design and packages all selected files into a compressed ZIP archive. The generation process usually takes a few seconds to complete.
After generation, click "Download" to save the ZIP file to your computer. The archive contains individual files for each selected layer, along with any additional files like drill data or pick-and-place information.
Verification and Quality Control
Before sending files to your manufacturer, extract and inspect the ZIP contents. Verify that all expected files are present and check file sizes to ensure they're not corrupted or empty. Many PCB manufacturers provide Gerber viewers on their websites where you can upload and preview your files before placing an order.
Consider opening the files in a dedicated Gerber viewer like GerbView or online tools to visually confirm that your design exported correctly. Pay particular attention to trace routing, pad sizes, and drill hole locations.
Manufacturer Submission
Most PCB manufacturers accept EasyEDA's standard Gerber export format directly. Simply upload the ZIP file through their ordering system. Some manufacturers may request specific modifications to layer naming or format, so maintain communication throughout the process to ensure successful fabrication of your PCB design.
