At Avino Silver and Gold mines, we are committed to responsible management of tailings and wastewater generated at the end of our mineral processing operations. To achieve this, we have implemented A rigorous process to reduce the amount of wastewater in our final tailings, ensuring safe storage in our tailing storage facilities.

Our first stage begins at the end of our flotation process where we have a tailings thickener tank. Through this process, we can recover 70% of the water that makes up the tailings flow immediately reusing it in our Beneficia tie in process and reducing the amount of water in the final tailings. Recently, Avino Silver and Gold mines has invested in a second stage for the treatment of final tailings.

This involved the installation of a tailings filtration plant to further reduce the percentage of residual water in the final tailings. As a result, we achieve a very low residual moisture content in our final tailings with a water recovery rate of 83 to 85% for reuse in our beneficiate tie in process since our final tailings have been processed in both the thickener tank and the filtration plant.

We can safely transport the filtered tailings using conveyor belts to our containment facilities. With such a low moisture content, we can securely distribute, stack and compact our filtered tailings using heavy machinery, ensuring the stability of our tailing storage facilities at Aveno silver and Gold mines.
