Hi all! Another bonus video! Say what?! Yes! Another bonus video! Today I will take you on a ride from Den Haag Centraal towards Utrecht Centraal during construction works at the Den Haag Centraal station. Have fun!
0:00 Den Haag Centraal
In Den Haag you can see construction works going on on the left side at the day of the recording. Workers were working on new infrastructure. New switches and tracks. And also platforms 11 and 12 at Den Haag got reintroduced. They were used by metro's for many years. But since the metro got relocated in the station the trains now get those platforms back. When construction is done trains from/to Leiden Centraal can depart and arrive with a maximum speed of 60km/h instead of 40km/h. :)
Today we get to drive a DZZ IC train! Not very common on my channel because I don't drive this train a lot. We depart just a few seconds late from Den Haag because the train manager wanted to wait for a few passengers.
On the right you can see the tracks towards Den Haag HS and the left to Leiden Centraal. On passing the viaduct there are tracks directly between these two stations.

4:00 Maximum Speed and Planned Speed
Because of the construction works at Den Haag our train schedule has been changed. We had to leave the station four minutes earlier than normal to make room for trains coming from Den Haag HS. We can't arrive four minutes earlier in Gouda, so our speed on our way to Gouda is set lower than normally. Please note: the planned speed can be overruled by the driver when he decides to change the driving plan. Which we do in this case! You'll see!
5:04 Voorburg (sorry for the typo in the video)
6:25 Ypenburg
9:15 Balijbrug
9:59 Zoetermeer
10:44 Zoetermeer Oost
11:31 Planned Speed to 120km/h!
Planned speed is raised to 120km/h. Since we've been driving a little faster than planned we don't speed up directly.
12:07 Lansingerland-Zoetermeer
14:21 Special Update to Passengers
Giving an update about why our speed is lower than normally. :)
17:44 Moordrecht Connection
19:21 Gouda
Arriving at Gouda right on time. The train ahead of us is just a minute delayed. Therefor we must slow down a little more than planned. No problem, we'll speed up as soon as we can so we still arrive on time. :)
20:23 Night Jet Test Ride (on our approach to Gouda)!
The new Night Jet has arrived in The Netherlands for test rides! In the end of the year the old rolling stock will be replaced by the new ones! Can't wait to travel with them for winter sports! :D
26:10 Gouda Goverwelle
After Gouda we're back on the normal train schedule. We can now speed up to the normal speed without encountering other trains in our path. :)
27:52 Dead Swan
A dead swan next to the tracks. To prevent other animals to cause problems near the tracks we report back to the train dispatcher to get the swan be taken away there. Between the swan and the reporting back we also pass a camera setup checking the outside of the train. This helps with spotting stuff that needs maintenance earlier than planned.
28:40 Province Border (1) + Oudewater
We'll be passing the same province border 3 times in this video. Look it up on Google Maps if you like. :D In the past here at Oudewater freight trains could be set aside when delayed. That option have been taken away by ProRail.
29:35 Coasting Again
Coasting for a short time because the tracks following are not super smooth. A lower speed gives more comfort to the passengers.
31:25 Province Border (2)
31:44 Woerden Overloopwissels
31:50 Province Border (3)
32:46 Woerden
34:27 Harmelen Connection
At this location a huge train crash happened in the past after a driver run a red light. After this the safety system ATB (and much later ATB-vv) was introduced in the drivers cabin to prevent this from happening.
36:21 Vleuten
37:34 Utrecht Terwijde
38:16 Utrecht Leidsche Rijn
A lower speed on the light signals than normally. Our arrival track in Utrecht is free, but it seems the train dispatcher blocked the computer from setting our path. Don't know why.
38:52 Vleutensespoorbrug
40:15 Utrecht-Woerden Connection
40:49 Utrecht Centraal
Arrival at our final stop for this ride! One minute late because we encountered the red light just before. We'll never know why. ;)
I hope you enjoyed this video. Please let me know if you have any questions. And of course I hope you to post a video about the updated situation in Den Haag soon. We'll see when I have ride there again.
Have a good weekend! Cheers!
