Why We Cling to Suffering?
Opening Story:
Alex Rivera, 34, couldn’t stop talking about a friendship that ended badly two years ago. He kept the screenshots, the messages, the memories. “It still defines me,” he admitted. “And maybe that’s the problem.”
Buddhist Principle:
We cling to suffering because it feels familiar—even when it hurts. Buddhism teaches that attachment, even to pain, is a habit that can be gently released.
Practice:
Farewell Letter to Pain. Write a letter to the pain you've been holding. Acknowledge it. Thank it. Then say goodbye. Read it aloud. Burn or bury it, if you're ready.
