John B. King Jr. credits the adults at his NYC public school with creating the safe, engaging, and challenging learning environment for him to imagine and pursue his highest aspirations, part of what he shared with the third graders currently attending his elementary alma mater, P.S. 276 The Louis Marshall School in Canarsie, Brooklyn, during a school visit. He told the students about how he used to study in the same classrooms as them, chose to pursue college and become a teacher like his mentor, Mr. Osterweil, later served as the U.S. Secretary of Education under President Barack Obama, and now leads as the Chancellor of the State University of New York (@SUNY).
The third graders were excited to meet someone who went to their same school and learn about his career, but were also eager to share their plans for the future with him — ideas about becoming doctors, entrepreneurs, and scientists — all dreams that are getting a boost from #NYCPublicSchoolAlumniCommunityScholarships, a direct investment in their NYC Scholarship Accounts for their future.
Through the NYC Kids RISE #SaveForCollege Program, you can join John King and other NYC Public School Alumni across all five boroughs in sending a powerful signal to NYC public school students. Visit nyckidsrise.org/alumni to learn more about leading NYC Public School Alumni Community Scholarships.
