At Osmaston, Ken and Jill Lawrence are carrying forward a family legacy nearly a century in the making. What began as Ken’s grandfather’s mixed farm has grown into a thriving dairy, with 850 Jersey cows producing around 400,000 kilos of milk solids each year.
Sustainability has always been part of their story. From shelter belts planted more than 30 years ago to new tree plantings and fencing supported by the Tamar Action Grants, the Lawrences have shown what’s possible when production and care for the environment go hand in hand.
With support from the Tamar Action Grants, they’ve:
✅ Fenced off waterways to keep livestock out
✅ Planted 1,200 native trees across the property
✅ Strengthened shelterbelts that protect stock, reduce water use, and provide habitat for birdlife
These changes aren’t just improving their farm, they’re helping reduce pathogens, improve water quality, and build a healthier future for the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary.
This case study is part of our On-Farm video series, showcasing the people behind the projects and the lasting environmental improvements they’ve helped achieve.
