Timisoara, the "Little Vienna" of Romania and 2023 European Capital of Culture, is a vibrant, historic city in Western Romania known for its stunning Secessionist architecture, expansive green spaces, and role as the birthplace of the 1989 revolution. As the third-largest city, it boasts a rich, multicultural heritage, featuring lush parks, the scenic Bega Canal, and a pedestrian-friendly center filled with cafes, museums, and colorful,, historic buildings.
Sibiu, located in the heart of Transylvania, Romania, is a vibrant, well-preserved medieval city renowned for its Germanic architecture, sprawling pedestrian plazas, and unique "houses with eyes" (roof vents). It offers a rich blend of history, thriving arts, and gastronomy, set against the backdrop of the Carpathian Mountains. Divided into the Upper Town (aristocratic) and Lower Town (craftsmen), the center is famous for its large, colorful squares like Piata Mare (Great Square) and Piata Mica. Known as the City of Eyes, Many roofs feature distinctive slitted windows, known as the "eyes of Sibiu," designed to let air circulate in attics, giving the city a unique, watchful character. The Bridge of Lies (Podul Minciunilor) is a popular landmark, rumored to creak if a lie is spoken on it. The city retains much of its original 12th-century defensive walls and towers, which are integrated into the modern city layout.
