No. 27 Tulane baseball completed their sweep of Pepperdine on Sunday afternoon at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, as freshman Grant Witherspoon lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Lex Kaplan to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 victory.
Tulane (7-4) led 3-0 through most of the contest, but Pepperdine (3-8) scored single runs in the fourth and sixth before tying it in the seventh. The Green Wave had multiple chances to put the game away, but it didn’t happen until the last possible moment, as Kaplan walked to lead off the ninth before stealing second and moving to third on an error. Shortly thereafter, Witherspoon’s sacrifice fly ended the game, giving the Green Wave their first sweep at home since taking three from Xavier in March of last season.
