I read the book by the the owner and builder of the villa, Axel Munthe which although titled The Story of San Michele is really the diary of a doctor in Paris and Rome .It was Chapter 11 that told the story of the villa and this remarkable building with its unique architecture that is so captivating.

During Covid I was alone and needed a project. I enjoy reading audiobooks and I had the freedom to chose a topic I enjoyed. I decided to read Chapter 11 and illustrate it. It has been a Labour of Love and taken over three years.

It is not produced for financial gain or to get thousands of Likes but I hope it may give the millions of visitors, nearly 3 Million tourists a year who visit the villa some clue as to its history of the Roman Villa in the sky.

Like Munthe, I have done this for me. I had to do everything. Research illustrations, sound, everything. All the material is out of copyright and the video is made for educational purposes to encourage others to read the whole book. If anyone has a problem please get in touch.

In his tale Munthe did take a few artistic liberties. The story teller states that there was no architect, in fact there was but Munthe did live in Keat's House on the Spanish Steps in Rome and did practice there as a very successful doctor. In the 1930's he went blind and wrote his best selling book. The Villa is as romantic as any palace of Tiberius and well worth a visit if you are lucky enough to go to the Isle of Capri.
