U.S. takes BIG U-TURN on India’s Russian oil purchase amid ongoing war with Iran in the Middle East

Описание: As the middle east crisis is hampering shipping routes that pass through strait of Hormuz U.S has announced a big waiver for India. The United States on March 5 allowed a 30 day waiver for India to purchase Russian Oil to meet its energy requirements. Announcing the move US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the waiver will allow Indian refiners to purchase Russian oil. In an X post he said, “This deliberately short-term measure will not provide financial benefit to the Russian government”. Bessent noted that the waiver only authorizes transactions involving oil already stranded at sea. The waiver comes at a time when India continues to face potential risks linked to energy supply disruptions amid tensions . India sources nearly 40% of its oil imports from Middle east, through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Scott Bessent also said that Washington anticipates that New Delhi will ramp up purchases of U.S. oil. Meanwhile, India continues to import Russian crude as per previous contracts and reviewing its energy situation twice a day
