Shaykh Dr Asim Yusuf is consultant psychiatrist, author, poet and singer. He specialises in Islamic metaphysics, psychology and spirituality. He has studied widely and received authorisation from senior traditional scholars from around the world. His studies have included the majority of the branches of the Islamic sciences, including advanced study of theology, philosophy, Islamic law, Quranic hermeneutics, the principles of hadith critique, juristic principles and the philosophy of Islamic law, the grammar and philosophy of the Arabic language, classical and modern logic, western and Islamic rhetoric, hadith commentary, shamail and tasawwuf. He is the author of several books, most notably Shedding Light on the Dawn, as well as being a poet and traditional singer better known by his pseudonym Talib al-Habib.

ORGANISER

The Irshad Centre for Hanafi Studies, founded in 2019, is an institution for the research, development, and instruction of Islamic doctrines in accordance with the school of Imām Abū Ḥanīfa (d. 150/767), the largest of the four, canonical, Sunni schools of Islamic law (madhhabs). The Centre is based in Leicester, and arranges seminars, intensives, and other academic events, both online and on-site, throughout the year, and also publishes an academic journal, the Journal of Hanafi Studies (www.johas.org), on an annual basis. In addition, the Centre provides consultancy services, offers beginner to advanced study options, postgraduate and specialisation (takhaṣṣuṣ) courses for traditional seminary (ʿālimiyya or equivalent) students, and also long-term, scholarship training and mentorship through its flagship course, the Hanafi Legal Code Program (HLCP).
