The incident triggered a massive fire, with flames soaring nearly 15 metres into the air and forcing the evacuation of around 300 homes. Emergency crews quickly contained the blaze and isolated a 29-kilometre section of the pipeline operated by Gazprom Transgaz Makhachkala.
