Around 1600 BCE, he did something no one had successfully done before—he overthrew a ruling dynasty and replaced it. But his real victory wasn’t just on the battlefield. It was in the story he told afterward.
Tang introduced a powerful new idea: that Heaven could withdraw its support from a bad ruler and give it to someone more virtuous. This idea, later known as the Mandate of Heaven, would shape Chinese politics for the next four thousand years.
