Tondo is a big, culturally diverse Manila district. Being near to Binondo, there are many Filipino-Chinese people living around this area and there are also various types of businesses in this area. Due to the abundance of Chinese food stalls and restaurants lying in this area, food tripping in this area would be a great idea. The relentless bustle and haggle of Divisoria, Manila's biggest discount market, can easily knock away the average traveler. Tondo is more of a bargain hunters shopping center; a walk or pedicab ride will encourage you to see the district's true colors. Every third week of January Tondo holds a feast dedicated to the Santo Niño. The Lakbayaw Dance Festival, where local dance schools and catholic devotees perform in the streets with rattling sound of drums and brass music, is the highlight of the festivities. Tondo is still a large residential area today, with images of poverty and gang violence etched into public knowledge, but now with the new form of goverment headed by Mayor Isko Moreno, the future of this district looks promising and bright.
