President Donald Trump used his State of the Union address to declare 'America is winning', honouring the Olympic hockey team's recent gold medal win whilst criticising the Supreme Court's decision to strike down his tariffs policy. Trump vowed to pursue tariffs through alternative means, claiming they could replace income tax, despite struggling poll numbers on economic management. The speech descended into a shouting match as he blamed Democrats for border security failures, the Ukraine war, and obstruction of immigration enforcement.
Trump also warned Iran he would never allow it to obtain nuclear weapons, preferring diplomacy but signalling military resolve. Many Democrats boycotted the event, underscoring Washington's deep political divide.
