Addictive Tuna Rice Bowl Recipe:
(This is a modification of my dad's recipe. He made this a lot while I was in high school and it remains one of my favorite dishes. I still can't get it to taste quite like his but this recipe can be done in 15 minutes and it's insanely good.
Ingredients:
1 can of tuna
2 onions (minimum)
2-3 cloves of garlic
2 tbsp chopped capers
3/4 cup chopped kalamata olives
1 diced Thai chili pepper
smoked paprika (a lot)
lemon (a lot)
olive (to finish)
Procedure:
1. Roughly dice the onions, finely chop the garlic and Thai chili pepper. Place these three aside. Next, roughly chop the capers and kalamata olives. That's 40% of the recipe done.
2. Add the onions to your pan along with garlic and the Thai chili pepper. Sauté until they develop color and fragrance. This next step is the most important! Hit the onions and garlic with a heavy amount of smoked paprika. You're going to aggressively stir, developing a nice caramelization on the onions from the paprika. This is the central flavor of the dish, please do not skip out on it otherwise you'll get a completely different-tasting end product!
3. Once your paprika-fried onions, garlic and chili are darkened (not burnt), add in the capers and kalamata olives. Stir everything together before adding in 1 can of tuna. I used Solid White Albacore Tuna, but whatever you have will work!
4. Now you're going to continue to sauté until everything comes together nicely. Add some olive oil and extra lemon juice to finish before serving over rice.
