The leaves were nearing peak fall colors when I arrived at Berklee College of Music in Boston last October. Professors Mark Wessel and Rob Jaczko, Course Chair of the Masters Engineering Lab, kindly invited me to lead a special session with their class.
For the second half of the workshop, we took to the field to record “2014” — a stunning song by Paige Tubinis, performed live over the Mass Pike with the iconic Prudential Tower rising in Boston’s skyline behind her and guitarist Georgia Mintz.
This performance captures the magic of music, place, and the vibrant energy of Boston in autumn.

“I’m Paige Tubinis, born and raised in Andover MA, and I’ve lived in Boston for four years. I’ve always felt a strong connection to this city, and I think I always will. It holds a lot of family memories, it has seen me at my absolute best and worst, and it’s always here for me- sometimes freezing cold with four feet of snow, but begrudgingly welcoming, bursting with new ideas, and full of the smartest and most creative people I’ve ever met. Because of the sheer number of college students here, I feel so inspired and motivated by all that young creatives accomplish in this city, the unique projects they work on, and the live music community’s determination to keep underground indie shows alive, to name a few reasons.

I wrote ’2014’ as a result of a couple years of immense grief and change, including important relationships in my life drastically changing, and it was a way for me to process how different life looked and felt. Drifting out of other peoples’ lives and losing close friends, wishing they were still in our lives, is a specific kind of pain that is really hard to articulate, but extremely cathartic to write about.” - Paige Tubinis
