I only came to film V/Line's A66. I quickly got slightly more than I bargained for. I arrived at the station at around 4pm on time onboard the 15:37 Melton service from Southern Cross. Shortly after the 15:12 Southern Cross service from Wendouree also passes though on time. However I realize something isn't right as the 16:00 Southern Cross - Wendouree express service was given a red signal, which had a clear path to leave the station only moments before.
It turned out that an idiotic motorist had damaged boom gates at Leakes Road in Rockbank, causing disruption for the Ballarat line during the afternoon peak. A decision was made to terminate the 16:00 Wendouree service at Caroline Springs, where the train then returned empty to Melbourne.
In this video we see all the disruption unfold on the Ballarat line during the afternoon peak. We also see rail replacement coaches at the bus interchange as stranded passengers are ferried away.
Caroline Springs is the newest station in Victoria, opening on the 29th January 2017. It serves the western suburb of Caroline Springs which is currently the edge of suburban Melbourne.
