Welcome to my new video!
In this video, I’m excited to share a hard rock progressive backing track in A minor. Whether you're a guitarist looking to jam or improve your improvisation, this track will provide the perfect foundation for exploring some classic and powerful scales.
Let’s dive into the theory behind it:
The main scale used here is the A Aeolian scale, also known as the natural minor scale. This scale is fundamental in many styles of rock and metal. The intervals that form the A Aeolian scale are as follows:
A (Root)
B (Major 2nd)
C (Minor 3rd)
D (Perfect 4th)
E (Perfect 5th)
F (Minor 6th)
G (Minor 7th)
Together, these intervals create the rich and moody sound characteristic of minor keys, perfect for a darker, progressive hard rock feel.
In addition to the Aeolian mode, we'll also be using the A minor pentatonic scale, a simpler but incredibly powerful scale used extensively in rock and blues. The A minor pentatonic scale consists of the following intervals:
A (Root)
C (Minor 3rd)
D (Perfect 4th)
E (Perfect 5th)
G (Minor 7th)
This scale omits the 2nd and 6th degrees, giving it a more raw and direct sound, making it ideal for fast licks, bending, and expressive playing.
Feel free to jam over this backing track, experiment with both the A Aeolian and A minor pentatonic scales, and have fun exploring different melodic ideas and phrasing.
Now grab your guitar, turn up the volume, and let's rock!
