Lets know about Chandys Windy Woods Hotel, Munnar:
The Cochin International Airport meets up to the world-class standard and became the world's first fully solar-powered airport. It won the coveted Champions of the Earth Award, the highest environmental honour instituted by the United Nations.
The chauffeur from the Chandys Windy Woods, a 5 Star Hotel in Munnar welcomed and comfortably seated us. The drive to Chandy's Windy Woods, Munnar, was splendidly scenic with forests, canals, waterfalls and various plantations along the way.
It took our breath away when our Chauffeur pointed towards the hotel, nestled in a nest of tea plantations on a gently sloping hillside. It looked so impressive and inviting.
The hotel staff welcomed us, literally at the threshold. After the initial checking of our temperature and the sanitizing procedure, we stepped into the sprawling reception and lobby area. It was, as its namesake, so windy and breezy like a whiff of fresh air and the kiss of nature. We were offered a refreshing warm cup of ginger lemon tea while we breathed in and gazed at the undulating slopes outside.
The Chef very graciously and speedily prepared a meal fit for the kings.
We were seated in the restaurant and sipped our watermelon coolers while our delicacies were served to us.
As per the construction and eco norms, the hotel is divided into various sections of three stories each. It is, differently-abled or physically challenged friendly with walkways and lifts. We, however, decided to take the flight of stairs to enjoy the sight of the artificial rainforest, a cave, gurgling waterfalls and sounds of the jungle. It even had a small quaint, archaic tea shop of its own across a wooded swaying walkway. Believe me, when I say I have never been a witness to and walked through a more natural in appearance, artificial surrounding than here at Chandys Windy Woods.
We had booked The Presidential Suite Room. From its two balconies, It offered spectacular vistas of the lush landscape of the cyan hills far away to the carpet of tea plantations all around.
After a short siesta and a cup of tea, we decided to indulge in the activity of walking tour of the tea estate offered by the hotel.
Mr. Bijoy Sebastian, Duty Manager, took us for an extensive tour of the estate. We were impressed by his knowledge, attention to detail and care for us, lest we trip over a branch or miss a step down the tea terrain.
He informed us about the Flower's foliage, Mysore Thunbergia Climber, popularly known as lady shoe flower to the shrub Strobilanthes kunthiana, known as Neelakurinji, the purplish-blue flowers that blossoms only once in 12 years.
A deep tissue pampering at the Ayurvedic spa was a much-needed relaxation therapy followed by a light dinner.
The following two days were spent on yet another Tea Trail,
sightseeing to the local tourist spots and the Tata Tea Museum. Kids went for a bike trail and at the leisure centre, while the better half spent time at the gym. A special awesome amazing candlelit dinner with music was laid out for us on the terrace. Chef Bipin had presented authentic local gourmet of sorts comprising of Pavaka fry(bitter gourd), Moru Curry, Potato mezhukuperity, Avila and Rice flex Payasam sweet.
The music, the gentle wind, the woods all cast a magical spell on us.
We had a wonderful and pleasant conversation with the gracious Executive Chef and General Manager, Master Chef Nibu James.
The next day after a lavish breakfast on the sunny terrace and a parcel of goodies for the road by Chef Bipin, we checked out. The entourage of staff from the hospitality department to the Managers on Duty, Mr Bijoy, Chef Bipin and General Manager and cordon bleu Chef Mr. Nibu James, all were present to bid us au revoir.
Looking back from the car window, we knew this was a property we will miss for its warm hospitality, location, accommodation and classic piquant gourmet.
