As you get older, you realize how very few actual friends you have; most people come and go from your life as circumstances change, and this only accelerates with age. Making new friends in midlife and beyond is a real challenge, especially as an immigrant trying to build a new life in a foreign country.

I'm very, very lucky for the friends I've already made up here in the Far North of Scotland. Building this new life is the best thing I've ever done.
