After our week of bliss at Swimcart beach🏖 -Bay of fires, it was really hard to move to Launceston. We opted to back track a bit and take the Esk Highway as this was pretty much a straight road into Launceston and we wanted minimal hills towing the van, due to our gearbox issues. 🚐

About a 90minute trip and we were in Launceston and settled into Old Mac's Farm 🐮. Now that we were safely in Launceston and the public holidays over, Kurt could start making some phone calls about our gearbox.

➡️Recap: one morning whilst driving, we found our gear stick (manual) sticking in 3rd gear. It wouldn't release until fully stopped - with no load. Very bizarre🤷🏻‍♂️. Its an uncommon gear box issues, as generally first or fifth gear go.

Our initial plan was to get ourselves back over to Melbourne and muck around with it, as the car was still drive-able.
⭐️So #funfact: Launceston has the cheapest D22 Navara gearboxes in Australia! After a bit of research Kurt found a suitable gearbox at the local Tasmanian Auto Recyclers for $775.

The next dilemma was whether to get it fitted here in Tassie or wait until we got back to the mainland?🤔 We were only 4 days out from our return sail, so thats a $900 boat ride we don't want to miss. Well, the guys at the recyclers were legends! Especially Luke. Kurt had only spoken to him on the Tuesday, he fitted us in on the Wednesday. Did the swap and we got our car back first thing Thursday morning with the new gearbox. 👍🏼

We took it for a good test drive up to Ben Lomond, which is large mountain🏔 an hour out of Launceston. We knew we had a 30day warranty so wanted to put it straight to the test in case there were any issues. Well luckily we did, as Kurt noticed the rear transfer case seal was busted. Oil was pissing out everywhere under the car. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It was quite late in the afternoon, and the recyclers had closed for the day. The next day, Friday morning (2 days out from our sail back 😬) Kurt rang them up first thing and spoke to Luke. He said bring it in straight away and they'll have a look. After two hours, they had a brand new seal fitted and fixed🔧 the problem at no cost to us, which was great!

It was really nice, as the seal could of simply been fatigued with age, and it was just unfortunate to have 'gone' during the swap. So they could of easily charged us, but they didn't. So we were back on the road, good as gold! What a week and what a great bunch of blokes to fit us in, on such short notice. 🤘🏼

Obviously due to this unexpected issue, we were unable to really explore😔 the north/east of Tassie. We did mange to do a day exploring Launceston, visiting Cataract Gorge and wandering around the main streets. We then moved back over to Forthe ready for our sail back on the Sunday.🚢

Overall it was a great 8 weeks in Tasmania and despite our hiccup in the last week we still saw and experienced a lot. The places we missed, will have to wait until next time. The perfect excuse to return... #tassiepart2
