José Antonio Santesteban (Oct. 18, 1835 - Sep. 21, 1906) was a Basque composer. There really wasn't a ton of info I could find on him other than he wrote the first opera in Basque, Pudente. He also went on to become the organist at the Santa Maria Basilica, a position his father held prior to him. It's unfortunate I couldn't find more about him, and his compositions are equally sparse.
This Prelude from his Op. 84 set fits right in among other Romantic era Preludes of the time. Perhaps not the most interesting of works, its beauty is in its simplicity (in my opinion). He dedicated this Op. 84 set to Spanish conductor and composer Tomás Bretón, who himself is more recognized today than Santesteban.
