Watch out! Police checkpoints in Tanzania, Africa. They show a picture from much further down the road with a hidden cell phone camera and a make-shift radar. You won't remember where and when it was taken, showing made-up, exaggerated or at least inaccurate speed. I didn't know right away what speed I was going, but I knew I didn't go 86 km/h, and that my truck camper couldn't drive that speed on those roads.
Later I went through my dash cam footage, found the spot but still couldn't see their camera. The photo is taken directly at the traffic sign. It's small and well hidden. While I took my foot off the gas at the sign, by the time I had slowed to 50km/h I had already mostly made it through the speed zone - it's only 150m (165 yards) long. But also saw that while I was going faster than 50 km/h when crossing the sign, it definitively wasn't 86 km/h.
What would you have done?
Are they corrupt? Or is it just the a game they play? How different is it really from other countries?
