Bolivia Has Been Paralyzed by Protests. Here’s Why.
After two decades of leftist rule, many voters who backed Bolivia’s new, more conservative president say he’s made their lives harder and are demanding his removal.

[Intro]
Gracias, Miku. Coffee’s hot and the sun is coming up over the desert, but down in Bolivia, the trucks have stopped. Let's talk about what happens when the new man breaks the old promise.
[Verse 1]
In the shadow of Illimani, the trucks sit in line
From the mines of Potosí to the tropical vine
Two decades of MAS, then the pendulum swung
Now Rodrigo Paz has the bitterest tongue
The conservative promise is a hollowed-out debt
And the voters who flipped haven't seen the floor yet
The blockades are rising in the Cochabamba dust
Because a vote for a savior is a gamble on trust
[Chorus]
¡Bolivia se para! Everybody feels the shake
But it’s the ones who build the house who have the most to break
You promised a floor, but you sold off the wood
Now the people are taking back all that they could
You can’t eat a policy or a politician’s pride
When the cost of living climbs, there’s nowhere left to hide
[Verse 2]
They say the dollars vanished, that the gas is under lock
But a mother in El Alto doesn't need to check the stock
She sees it in the market, she feels it in the line
Waiting six hours just to keep the dream alive
I stand by my fence, doing math on the grain
I see the same look, I feel the same pain
When the dollar is a ghost and the fuel is a dream
The working man’s life is a tear at the seam
[Bridge]
The people in the big offices call it macro-stability
But down here, we call it the end of the month
It’s a mirror for us, held up in the light
When the workers are forced to stand up and fight
When the wages are frozen and the rent is too high
The only thing left is to look in their eye
And say, Ya basta. El pueblo está harto.
[Outro]
The road is a wall.
The hunger is loud.
Rodrigo, look at the map.
Watch the crowd.
