Google Disables Top Shot on the Pixel 6 by Default

Back when Google launched the Pixel 3 smartphone, the company had also released a new update to its Camera application that added a new feature called Top Shot. The idea behind this feature is to capture 1.5 seconds worth of still images both before and after you tap the shutter button on the camera app.

This results in about 10 additional photos being saved each time you take a picture, but it is an incredibly useful tool when you want to take a photo of an subject that is moving fast.

For a feature that is advertised so prominately, I was surprised to learn this is something Google is disabling by default on the non-pro version of the Google Pixel 6 smartphone.

From what I'm reading, this feature is turned on automatically with the Pixel 6 Pro which makes me even more confused since there isn't much of a hardware difference between the two devices.

Still, I wanted to remind all Google Pixel 6 users that this is a really useful feature if you find yourself taking photos of fast moving objects with the camera, and it's something you should turn on right now so you don't find yourself scrambling for the toggles when you really need it most.

We can enable this feature by opening up the Google Camera application and then swiping down on the viewfinder to bring up this hovering.

You can see this feature is not turned on by default as I have just set this phone back up from a factory data reset.

So we can turn this feature on by selecting this option and then take our photos like normal.

You'll know that this feature has been enabled for a photo by looking for this icon in the corner of the picture preview.
