The Monologue:
I’ve always loved the stars. The way they glimmer at night as if they are talking to you, trying to say something we aren’t capable of hearing. I had a science teacher who was a false prophet. I kept catching mistakes in his teachings. He couldn’t get the facts straight and would never correct himself. He’d mark my answers wrong on tests when they were right. I tried to show him he was wrong, but things didn’t go so well. That was my failure – believing I lived in a world where truth reigned supreme, where hard work, integrity, and talent mattered.
So, I dropped out of school because I was afraid of what I might do. I didn’t want to give in to my rage. I’d like to think I’m smart enough to avoid such choices. I have been so far. I’ve simply chosen to ride life out like the rest of us…
I’m considered average, not because I lack potential, but because striving for more raises the red flags, it seems.
Then there was Jennifer…Jennifer. She went off with my best friend, and that was that. That was after she promised I could take her out. Broke my heart, really.
And let’s see now, there’s dear old Dad who turned his family life into a masterpiece. His grand magnum opus, if you will. And we’re stuck mopping up the mess of it. So, there you have it.
We’re all too exhausted to be anything more, really. All we can do is hang back and let things ride…like the rest of us…like the rest of us.
Повторяем попытку...
