The partnerships that the public and private sectors build is critical during a disaster. On October 16, 2012, the California Emergency Management Agency, along side Walmart and the American Red Cross, partnered together to show residents in the west Los Angeles area how they can take simple measures to dramatically increase their animals' emergency preparedness. These measures included getting themselves more educated, such as knowing how to perform CPR on an animal.
