Several Missing After Landslide Buries New Zealand Campground

Описание: A powerful landslide smashed into a campground in rain-lashed northern New Zealand, leaving several people missing beneath tonnes of mud and debris. The landslip struck multiple camper vans and crushed a shower block at a campsite near Mount Maunganui on the North Island.

Emergency officials said voices were briefly heard calling for help from beneath the rubble, but rescue teams were forced to withdraw as the ground continued to move, raising fears of further collapses. Police confirmed the number of missing is believed to be in single figures.

The incident followed heavy overnight rain in the region. Authorities have evacuated the area as rescue operations continue under dangerous conditions.
