Typing at 110 WPM (raw) on a 1934 Underwood No 6 typewriter

Описание: This footage from mid-June was taken about a month after    • Typing at 85 WPM (raw) on a 1934 Underwood...  . I've lost track of the number of characters that were typed. Likewise, there was one cut where I lost my place in the copy text (I think it was from Nietzsche's The Genealogy of Morality , namely the Cambridge University Press’s edition in https://philosophy.ucsc.edu/news-even... I did eventually type through nigh the entire book other than acknowledgment lists or the index etc.) and resumed, my having taken this cut in the timing into account when calculating the final raw (not applying penalties for the myriad of mistakes I surely made) WPM. Here, I was using a 20 lb. sheet of paper behind a thin likely Shore 30A hardness silicone sheet trimmed from a silicone Saran wrap alternative (it was terrible at this job and attracted dust; this rearmost sheet prevents the silicone sheet from wrapping around itself while feeding) with four more 20 lb. sheets in front of it, whereby the silicon backing sheet is still too soft such that the print quality is terrible. Without this setup, and sometimes even with it at some parts of the page, it would be piercingly loud to type on and warrant usage of my ANC headphones. Otherwise, this more muted sound should be more representative of what typewriters actually sounded like when they were just a few years old and their platens were still soft (the rubber hardens over the decade, making typing much louder and higher-pitched, so not all typewriter sound effects are truly "authentic" to the time period due to the specimens often having a hard platen). Ones forearms truly burn after these exercises, whereby you can only imagine the amount of training and practice that allowed our forebears to type accurately at these speeds for hours a day.

The keyboard below the typewriter is a Zeos NMB with clicky black Space Invader switches.
