In today's episode we begin the book of Ezra, which was written with Nehemiah, either as one book or two books that went together. In Ezra the first wave of exiles return from Babylon with support from King Cyrus of the Persian Empire, to rebuild the temple. In today's session they make preparations, make the journey, and begin making sacrifices, even before laying the foundation for the temple.
