OBC (Other Backward Classes) refers to socially and educationally backward communities identified by the Indian government. OBC reservation is provided to ensure equal opportunities in education and government jobs and to reduce historical inequality. Communities listed in the central or state OBC list come under this category. OBC is divided into OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) and OBC-CL (Creamy Layer) based on family income and status. Only OBC-NCL candidates are eligible for benefits. In central competitive exams, OBC-NCL gets 27% reservation, along with age relaxation, lower cut-off marks, scholarships, and job opportunities.
