Welcome to another episode of Jazzy Sundays. My weekly series where I play a different jazz standard every Sunday.
Today I’m playing a reharmonisation of a jazz standard you might know written by Thelonious Monk called: ‘Round Midnight 🌙
Did you know there’s also a movie made called ‘Round midnight starring Dexter Gordon and Herbie Hancock?
The story is based on jazz legends Lester Young and Bud Powell and is mainly set in Paris where the main character played by Gordon tries to make a living playing at Le Blue Note.
🏆The soundtrack was made by Hancock for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Gordon earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and won a Grammy for the soundtrack too.
